Get your dancing shoes on, it's Friday! Here's the Cameo Ballroom, Kilmarnock Rd. Note the 'Ballroom Closed' sign. This photo was taken September 1939 when, in anticipation of heavy enemy bombing, places of entertainment were closed. Restrictions were lifted shortly afterwards.

Gorbals, 1964
Another great image of Gorbals in transition from old to new. The Department of Architecture and Planning have not identified the street in the albums. Perhaps a keen eyed former resident will be able to help?

Over the next weeks we will be taking another look at the story of housing in Glasgow.
There were a few old timber houses, but most of the houses in the 19th century were stone-built tenements built in the previous 150 years.

St Enoch's Sq, c.1900 named after St Thenew (known as St Enoch), mother of St Mungo. A chapel was dedicated to her from earliest time, with a holy well close by. This marked what was reputed to be her final resting place.
