Today I spotted my first Wandering Garter Snake of the season, sunning itself in spite of mild 10C temps.
I admired its enthusiasm and understand it - after spending 6 mos underground in the dark - get out and feel the sun on your scales.

On this day in 1848, the crew of the Terror and Erebus abandoned the vessels in the ice.
The remaining 105 officers and crew planned to walk to find help in the south.
None survived the journey.
