Faith Ringgold’s 1971 protest in front of the old Whitney Museum w/ the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition was a pushback against the institution’s questionable practices. 46 yrs later, her work inspired by being called a ni**er at that protest would be displayed @ the Whitney 🙃

RIP Faith Ringgold (1930-2024), who leaves an incredible legacy after a life dedicated to art &activism. In story quilts such as the French Collection, she used textile art to intervene in narratives of art history & modernism, rewriting the canon to centre the Black female gaze
