Excellent piece by Dov Zakeim: Campus riots undermine the Palestinian cause, but Netanyahu’s allies undermine Israel’s thehill.com/opinion/intern…

Actually, no praise is intended. I tend to agree with your point about the potential blowback, ie the US being seen as having sole responsibility for the situation.

In 1939, 🇹🇷 concluded a mutual assistance treaty with 🇬🇧+🇫🇷 (this explains the timing of the transfer of the then 'sanjak of Alexandretta' from French-mandate Syria to 🇹🇷). After 🇫🇷 defeat, a neutral 🇹🇷 used an escape clause in the treaty, & moved closer to Germany for a time

I sadly have to endorse this analysis.

Also, keep in mind that out of the approximately 500 AURs of current IRIS-T production capacity, only a portion is going directly to Ukraine.

Diehl Defence has significant export contracts to fulfill, similar to Raytheon with Patriot.

Rising US pressure. A broader point: like it or not, effectively or not, the US is the only great power to be seriously invested in events in Gaza, not China, not Russia, not the EU

That's the one: 🇫🇷, April 1940. 2 months later, the Wehrmacht had reached the Spanish border...The poster was right & Hitler knew it. So he sought a quick victory. Then, the Brits derailled the time-table. The rest is history. Strategy is less about being right than about timing

Such calculations were made in early WW2 (eg the famous 'nous vaincrons parce que nous sommes les plus forts' poster of April 1940 Paris; or Yamamoto's thoughts when planning Pearl Harbor strike). They turned out to be perfectly accurate. They didn't deter the Axis powers...

I just spent a week in Beijing, for the first time in many years. A few thoughts. The war in Ukraine is creating huge strains in China's relations with the US and the EU. This is because the war has pushed China into closer alignment with Russia, Iran and DPRK. /1 CER

Interesting. Russia is violating the CWC by using riot control agents in combat - in this case, chloropicrin AKA tear gas - and not one of the CW agents declared by Russia under the CWC (e.g., VX, sarin, soman, mustard, lewisite).

A weird choice of words by David Cameron. Raises the issue: what exactly are NATO forces supposed to do or not do if Russian troops break through?
