Polar bear traffic jam in western Hudson Bay. Almost all the bears we're tracking are far to the west this spring. Purple locations are from ear tag radios deployed this spring so it makes sense they're close in. Eastern part of the Bay is oddly low in ice cover.

DYK the existing Ontario Place provides locally rare shoreline habitat for Species at Risk including turtles requiring graduated slopes to move between water and land? When planners fail to account for wildlife permeability on these landscapes, we drive them closer to extinction.

Thousands of birds migrate to yearly to breed.

They nest under structures, like the pods over water.

Netting that has been put up stops these birds from nesting, jeopardizing their breeding habitats and population.

On , protect our wildlife.

Happy World Migratory Bird Day!

Help protect birds by protecting insects! Planting insect friendly gardens and not raking leaves are great steps you can take at home. Go one step further and make sure your windows are bird friendly: flap.org/stop-birds-fro…

About 250-350 million birds are predicted to migrate across the U.S. each night this weekend!

Lights at night can be very disorienting to birds during their long spring migration. To help prevent deadly bird collisions, turn off or dim unnecessary lights!

McMaster student spent months on an island covered in bird poop and puke — and she can’t wait to go back

Flynn O’Dacre will be returning to Middleton Island this summer to take part in seabird research.

We handled & released (under scientific permit) this young male 2 weeks ago. He was clearly competing for mating opportunities but he's likely early on in his attempts to pass along his genes. The most successful siring of cubs occurs in a bear's mid-teens.

That was fast! Tree swallows don’t waste time. Thanks Feather Friendly for pitching in to cover the cost to replace their home on campus. By the way, the highest-risk windows on buildings in all four directions surrounding this site have been treated for bird safety 😊

As we prepare for , celebrating the importance of insects and birds who eat them, remember that one of largest colonies of swifts and swallows in Ontario is currently being blocked from its breeding territory so the Ford government can build its luxury spa.

Locations of W. Hudson Bay polar bears. The purple dots are our latest deployments of ear tag satellite radios. Everyone is pretty close to shore. It's definitely spring in the Bay now - melt will come quickly with the warming weather.

😭 The building that killed this federally and provincially-listed Species at Risk broke multiple laws (Migratory Bird Regulations, Species at Risk Act, Ontario EPA). This could happen to buildings anywhere, with public complaints to authorities potentially leading to charges.

This is a contravention of Canada’s Migratory Bird Convention Act and Species at Risk Act waiting to happen. This is NOT how exclusion netting like this is meant to be used. Birds returning to their breeding grounds will very likely get tangled in it and die.
