In response to intimidation by students and others breaking Johns Hopkins University rules, my university is agreeing to consider anti-Israel divestment. An illegitimate request made through force - and shamefully the university’s leadership caved. A disgrace.
Western circles have 'a desire to avoid confronting the awfulness of real war,' Eliot A Cohen writes. 'There is a deeper civilizational malady here, the kind that manifests in magical thinking about political choice.' theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
A lot of magical thinking going on about war, and in particular the possibilities of waging it immaculately and ending it cleanly. My latest in The Atlantic. CSIS Johns Hopkins SAIS Seth G. Jones Phillips P. OBrien theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
A critically important thread by one of the leading analysts @PISM. There was not a deal to be had that could have guaranteed Ukraine’s survival, and we are kidding ourselves if we think otherwise. @Dszeligowski @Debski Seth G. Jones
Very grateful to Eliot A Cohen - former Counselor of the Department of State, now Professor at Johns Hopkins University and Strategy Chair at CSIS - for joining The Telegraph's 'Ukraine: The Latest' podcast again today.
Fascinating insights from a long-term listener.

A wonderful visit with my friends The Telegraph, whose podcast is a tremendous service to all who care about Ukraine. If you are not listening, you should.
As always, Mykola Bielieskov gets right to the heart of the matter is this new important piece. atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainea…
A superb take down, Daniel Szeligowski. Particularly pernicious is that (a) one of the authors, in particular, has a history of urging the West to abandon Ukraine; (b) this resembles a standard pro-Soviet Cold War narrative - its the West’s fault. It wasn’t, and it isn’t. @Debski
“The major players in the Russia–China–Iran–North Korea coalition are increasingly willing to use open violence…& to threaten much worse, including use of nuclear weapons. They are united by a growing belief their moment is coming.” Eliot A Cohen theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
Very good piece by Eliot A Cohen.
“It is in this frame, then, that the U.S. and its allies have to consider next steps…American leaders will err if they attempt to compartmentalize each of their challenges…Until Iran pays a visible and heavy price, the problem will get worse.”
My take on the Iranian missile attacks: it’s a lot bigger than tit for tat, and Israel’s tactical success is by no means the end of it. The Atlantic CSIS Johns Hopkins SAIS theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
A dispatch from Kyiv, from Eliot A Cohen, as the city's primary power plant burns. It's not too late, he says, to turn things around: theatlantic.com/international/…
'The Biden administration has to tell the American people that this war threatens us because it threatens European peace,' Eliot A Cohen reports from Kyiv: theatlantic.com/international/…
'The Biden administration has to tell the American people that this war threatens us because it threatens European peace,' Eliot A Cohen reports from Kyiv: theatlantic.com/international/…
'Unless the Biden administration rises to the occasion, a dark spring could bring much bleaker seasons to follow,' writes CSIS's Eliot A Cohen in The Atlantic.

I visited Kyiv with a small group from the PISM CSIS and Australian retired general Mick Ryan, AM. Here is what I saw and think. Johns Hopkins SAIS theatlantic.com/international/…
