They can do this, as long as they're not campaigning within the perimeter of a polling station.

If you’re concerned, speak to the Returning Officer in the first instance.

Only have an out of date ID?

As long as:

📷 it still looks like you

🖊️ the name on your ID is the same as the one you used to register to vote

your ID will still be accepted at the polling station.
