Those were not officers at the time of the beating. Those were 5 angry black men who took out frustrations on a helpless unarmed black man. Black or white, beating a human unmercifully must be met with the highest consequences. Read Full Statement facebook.com/EthicalSociety…

Today Black History Month begins with National Freedom Day marking the day President Lincoln signed the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. Yet we know that it wasn’t until the end of the Civil War and the amendment’s passage that slavery was abolished nationwide.

We wish a speedy recovery to the officers who were shot last night. Officers go to work not knowing if they're going to come back home. Despite meager wages and disrespect by our local government, these officers did the job they swore an oath to do More: facebook.com/EthicalSociety…

"The police force is understaffed, I think everybody is just frustrated. We’d like to see our elected officials step up and support the police and the first responders—work together to get this thing under control" Bogarts Smokehouse owner Michael Macchi stltoday.com/news/local/cri…

Once again, a COB bill was drafted without input from those who represent minority officers and are working to improve community/police relationships. We support the end goal, so why don't they want our input? stltoday.com/news/local/cri…

ESOP has been involved in Collective Bargaining negotiations for years. This pay raise for all SLMPD officers finally puts wages within range of the County. Now we need to make sure civilians who work for the department and city are compensated. Statement bit.ly/ESOP-CBA

In the US women make up only 12% of sworn police officers and 3% of police leadership. This undermines public safety. Learn more the 30x30 Initiative working to increase that number to 30% by 2030. 30x30initiative.org #InternationalWomensDay2023

ESOP has always opposed local control. Our previous leadership documented the position in its 2020 SLMPD Report. "ESOP opposed local control of SLMPD and some language in the CBA but knew there would be no possibility of preventing either." Report Link esopstl.org/wp-content/upl…

The 2020 ESOP report went on to call out the negative impacts. "Since 'local control' and the CBA minority officers have lagged behind with hiring, promotion, job placement in coveted positions, and more. Officer discipline along racial lines has been biased as well."

Those who seek to undermine ESOP for their own agenda would like to make a big deal over which organizations or people happen to agree with our position on state/local control. This is inconsequential. We stand firm on the issues that impact our officers and the community.

How weak-minded of an organization would we be if we changed our position just because an organization we often disagree with aligns on this issue? How small-minded is it to think if we agree on some matters that we align on all? Let's debate the issues and stop the smoke screen.

It's very concerning that in drafting the replacement legislation, key stakeholders weren't consulted. Very little is changed in the new bill. This is upsetting when we see firsthand each day the need for progress for our civilians and our officers. stltoday.com/news/local/cri…
