The Kinnaird Hall on Bank Street, c. 1963.

The Kinnaird Hall was a theatre and then converted into a cinema in 1919 as the owners felt they wouldn't be able to survive with the competition from the soon to be opened Caird Hall.

Street of the Week: Arthurstone Terrace

This street actually used to be three separate streets until 1908. What name do you prefer: Buchan Street, Kilmaron Terrace or Arthurstone Terrace?

One of the smallest items in our exhibition is this button from Dundee tailor JP Smith. Based at 6 High Street from the mid-1850s, we believe Mr Smith traded until the early 20th century. Amazingly this tiny button fell down a chimney in a Windsor Street flat.

No two days are the same. One minute you are helping an academic research the jute industry, then you are locating plans of the Tay Bridge landfall and then tracking down the identity of their father's war time sweetheart. And that's just answering emails!

The most in the Caledon Collection (Ref: GD324) is the plans of the SS Californian. Built in Dundee in 1901 the ship is best known for its involvement with the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. The Californian was sunk by torpedo in 1915 off Greece. ARA Scotland

We have a small collection of items created by Draffens, a large store on Whitehall Street that I'm sure many people will remember. The collection mostly consists of the staff journal, news cuttings and promotional material.
