Pro-LTN: close my road! We hate rat runners!

➡️Result is other roads get *much* busier.

Resident on a now congested road: Look at my road, my kids walk to school here. It's awful.

Pro-LTN: The problem is too many cars.

Isn't it interesting that this pro-LTN account used to totally deny there was an issue with traffic on EDG. Now they admit it's a congested and polluted school road that thousands of pupils use every day.

When does this traffic appear?

During the Dulwich LTN restrictions...

Irony not lost here that Cllr Williams supports the Dulwich LTNs which has seen traffic increases on boundary roads of 35% and even roads inside the LTN of 35% (both compared to pre-LTNs).

How does that reduce air pollution or improve air quality?

There are two nurseries on Croxted Rd and one on East Dulwich Grove.
Croxted Rd suffers such bad congestion from the Dulwich LTNs it can take the no 3 bus 30 mins to travel only 500m.
EDG has seen a 35% increase in traffic compared to pre-LTNs.
Why do Mums for Lungs support LTNs?

Southwark intentionally routed hundreds of *extra* vehicles through this junction to try to make the Dulwich LTNs work. By closing DV to through traffic during rush hour, vehicles have no choice but to use this route or Lordship Lane. There is no solving this with an LTN.

This is such an accurate assessment of the LTN experiment in Dulwich.
If you live on Calton Avenue you might think the LTN is great.
If you live on Croxted or go to one of the 4 schools on East Dulwich Grove where traffic is up 35%, not so much.

The cllr for Dulwich Village won't admit that his LTN designs have, in fact, moved traffic from one road to another.
East Dulwich Grove traffic has increased 35% compared to pre-LTNs.

A reminder that London Ambulance has been against hard closures since 2020.

➡️Hard closures cause delays.
➡️Delays impact patient safety.

Southwark is putting local residents at risk because *their* highway design cannot keep pedestrians and cyclists safe in the DV junction.

This is Dekker road. Southwark thinks this is the best route for a fire engine to take rather than Calton Avenue.
Other than closing Calton Ave to emergency services, no other precautions have been taken to ensure ES are able to safely and quickly get to their destination.

It's been almost 3 weeks since the cllr from Dulwich Village claimed, without evidence, that the LFB agreed to closing Calton Ave.

There has been no correction by LFB to the FOI. Southwark has provided no documentation to back up the cllr's claim.

How much time do we give LTNs to 'drive behaviour change'?
4 years later and these are the Dulwich LTN facts:
🔴EDG traffic ⬆️ 35%
🔴Croxted Rd so congested it can take the no 3 bus 30 mins to travel only 500m.
🔴Cycling down over 70% inside the LTN.

This article missed two crucial points.
- The ES forced Southwark into making this a trial closure instead of a permanent change.
- Local residents were unaware of this trial until this account forced cllr Leeming to admit it.

This pro-LTN account won't admit this congestion has just been displaced to the next road.
Traffic on East Dulwich Grove ⬆️ 35% since Calton Ave was closed to thru traffic, averaging over 15k cars a day.
No schools on Calton Ave, but 4 on EDG, a medical hub and a nursery...

Southwark has still provided no evidence that cllr Leeming's claim that LFB were consulted is correct.

We have heard nothing from LFB that the FOI was inaccurate.

Cllr Kieron Williams release this information for us all to see and end this speculation.

The ES only agreed to the closure *if* it was a trial and delays were monitored. If delays are reported it 'would need to be removed.'
