Front page of the Girgarre Gazette! What a great way to engage the community about the fat-tailed #dunnart , that they may be lucky to find on their properties π
(Girgarre is a small farming town 40km southeast of Echuca in VIC)

Barbed wire and #wildlife don't mix. My heart aches. While on #fieldwork recently I found 4 deceased native #bats , a few metres from each other.
I believe these are Little red #flyingfoxes , semi-permanent residents of northern VIC.

Today in the office... department good girls Ocean (marine biologist) and Kelly (microbiologist) made some new friends.

The sand-dunes of #Kokatha #desert country left me mesmerized, as did the remnants of #indigenous life, scattered amongst the dunes. Forever connected to landscape; a continual reminder that it #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #Aboriginal land.

PARTY IN MY PITFALL! (What you can't see are the two legless-lizards under the false floor as well!)

Not my usual #dunnart suspect... though very much welcome in my traps nonetheless π€©π

Jan's Banded Snake (Simoselaps bertholdi) is a #nocturnal , burrowing ( #fossorial ), #desert -dwelling species of #snake that feed on small lizards! Isn't she a beauty?!

... if the worst case scenario does happen, and you do make contact, stop to remove it from the road to avoid more casualties. If it's a female, check her pouch.
I moved two lost lives off the road today.

Nope... it's not poop. These are actually #owlpellets ... the regurgitations of undigestible material from a local #barnowl . One of my favourite #fieldwork activities is dissecting these to see what the local #owls have been eating. Main item on the menu here? #Microbats !
