Pro tip: If you're teaching literacy to adults, please focus heavily on the fundamentals of lesson delivery/memory formation and a lot less on your marxist side project. This will have the most liberatory effect.

In many ways the most interesting idea that Pritesh Raichura & Ark Soane Academy proposed was that the purpose of answering questions was sometimes simply to cause students to rehearse an idea times in order to build memory.

The biggest divide in coursework rigor isn’t between STEM and humanities it’s between all traditional liberal arts fields and the new education / business / social work / health fields.

I'm not sure people fully understand how demoralizing it is to be in a school with poor behavior (b/c the adults can't be bothered to instill systems and norms and high expectations) and weak crayola & edutainment curriculum (again because the adults can't be bothered).

One of the most important applications of Cognitive load theory is the “Transient Information Effect.”  When information that is important to a required task disappears it hinders learning because students have to both remember & think about/analyze it

Dragging a core ‘foundation stone’ on to which other skills are attached - it allows players to keep possession while looking up to ‘outwit’ defenders & connect with teammates - dragging to dodge, dribble, shoot, cross, pass, turn, disguise, it puts the ball carrier in control 🧵

Social media features such as endless scrolling and push notifications are “particularly risky” to young people, whose developing brains are less able to disengage from addictive experiences and are more sensitive to distractions.

I've just returned home from a week in England where I learned & saw a lot so I'm writing a sort of mini-travelogue. Starting with my visit to Ark Soane Academy.

Making the teacher clipboard idea from Doug Lemov my own this term with a note book filled with seating plans.

Ticks made in lessons and show who has read to the class or been cold called. Two plans per page let me look back and target students who didn’t participate last time.
