I just read the term “compassion exploitation” in an essay by Michelle Cohen, MD and it hit me with all the feels.

So many workers in education and healthcare are women.

We are socialized to give, even when it causes us harm.

I’m having some big feelings.

I'll end with a piece I wrote nearly 5 yrs ago about sick notes. Nothing has changed since then - except perhaps the continued loss of doctors from primary care and the continued bureaucratic abuse of sick employees.

You have to read to the very last paragraph of this article to get to an important historical point:

Ontario already 'scrapped' sick notes back in 2018 - and far more effectively than now.

But then Ford brought sick notes back (screenshot in next post).

A sick note is not 'proof' of anything except that a private company feels entitled to use the public health care system as its own personal worker truancy deterrent.
