The Lincoln Park home where Henry Darger lived for 4 decades, creating voluminous and strange art that was only discovered after his death, is going up for sale.

Now a single-family home, it was a boarding house when he lived there, 1930s to 1970s.

Introducing our public meetings database!

Public meetings are one of the few opportunities that Chicagoans have for direct engagement with City agencies & decision makers on projects, but many are unable to attend & they're difficult to keep track of.

Chgo Federation of Labor & IL AFL-CIO call transit funding a top priority, but say merging 3 agencies would “erect a web of bureaucratic barriers between the workers who both operate and utilize our public transit system and the board members tasked with overseeing its success.”

Why was grey limestone such a popular facing material for small residential developments around the turn of the century but seemingly never used for larger residential or commercial developments in Chicago?

Okay so now I’ve lived in a six flat, single family home, courtyard building, corner building, three flat, and high rise. I feel like the only page in my Chicago housing passport yet to be stamped is a four plus one (and the sfh wasn’t a bungalow, so maybe that)

I vastly prefer linear foot to square foot as a measure of fiscal impact. Much likelier that city costs (sewers, snowplowing, police response) scale with feet of street than square feet of land.

All this is to say: Unifying transit agencies isn't an automatic slam dunk. Needs to be accompanied with assurances that:
—Fare unification occurs
—Service is improved across the entire region, permanently

Future city vs suburb fights over service seem practically unavoidable.

I see posts about the wild state of Metra stations, but: last month a friend was walking up the stairs at the Van Buren station. The steps were slippery; she slipped and grabbed the railing. The railing was attached with duct tape. She broke her nose and was bruised head to toe.

When I was young some of my opinions about politics, society, or even just every day aspects of my life, were ill conceived and based on an inadequate understanding of life's complexities. This is my secret shame.
