I realize we do “attacking people who retreat is a war crime” discourse once a month. But it’s not.

It’s not even particularly ethically grey. You retreat for the purpose of preserving your military forces to come back and fight the next day. It’s not the same as surrendering.

James Historically, this has been the decisive point of the battle. Cavalry was generally used to pursue retreating forces, which usually meant a clear victory.
