The oppositions ability to refuse to be divided and unite behind an opposition candidate is probably not what Maduro expected to happen and it feels like Maduro is starting to feel some pressure again for the first time in years.

Venezuelas opposition parties have finally united behind a candidate for the July Presidential elections after Maria Corina Machado was banned from standing and her replacement was not allowed to register, other opposition candidates have withdrawn to leave a main candidate.

The political parties MPV and UNT have been able to resign to their candidates and support the unitary candidate Edmundo González #Venezuela . There is still a long way to go and there have been many violations thus far, but this seems to be a positive step 👇

Opposition primary winner María Corina Machado, barred from standing in the 28 July presidential election, puts her weight behind the substitute candidacy of Edmundo González and clarifies the meaning of her slogan 'hasta el final' (to the end).

Unanimously, the Unitary Platform, María Corina Machado and Manuel Rosales agreed that former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia -already registered in the ballot- will be the Venezuelan opposition’s candidate. Rosales will withdraw his candidacy.
