I need to acknowledge our director of grad studies Gregory Samanez-Larkin for treating all students—current, past, accepted, & rejected—with the kindness that academia can so sadly lack. He’s going viral on Reddit for his thoughtful rejection letters, & I hope other programs follow suit.
Awesome this is finally out. Kudos to first author Lukas Lengersdorff for his stamina and Bayesian mind, and to collaborators Predrag Petrovic Andreas Olsson who initiated this line of work. Also check out the nice summary of key points by Roy & Coll: elifesciences.org/articles/94949 eLife - the journal
superhappy about this - especially as both grants involve two awesome ECRs whose first co-authored major grant this was Claudia Massaccesi Ekaterina Pronizius Special thanks to FWF and all (anonymous) reviewers for their trust and constructive comments - & now: back to work 🧐🧠
Excited to share my primer on simulation-based power analysis using R, Python, and Julia! Based on @debruine@tech🐘lgbt's approach applied todata collected by Kirsten Adam, I hope it's a helpful tool for those starting with simulations. Check it out: cjungerius.github.io/powersim/ #DataScience
American compassion has made a comeback.
In 2011, Dr. Sara Konrath and colleagues found that US college student's empathy had dropped from 1979-2009.
The fall was precipitous. In some cases, 2009 students reported being less empathic than 75% of students 30 years before.
Awesome collaboration - 'from mice to men' (kind of) on the amygdala. Finally convinced by Ronald Sladky his favorite area, the amygdala, may be more interesting than mine, the (anterior) insular cortex :) Curious to hear and read how the views we propose resonate with our peers
Grateful to Torin Academy of Sciences' 2023 International Ferrari Soave Award for Human Biology. I could say a few words in 🇮🇹 thanking Giorgia CSN Unit and all collaborators esp. SCAN-Unit and my mentors. Research is teamwork 🙌 youtube.com/watch?v=XUqBQg… (~1:13:00) Accademia Scienze To
