Since 2014, we've been experimenting with low energy use storage.
In January 2024, we intensified our efforts - and turned the air conditioning off!
In the short term, we're using dehumidifiers to moderate relative humidity in the strongrooms.

Today's #ConservationWin : our conservator Sarah using a 'smoke sponge' to clean a photomechanical plan from Ove Arup’s archive.
Look closely and you can see the colour difference in the right section, which has already been cleaned!

Sarah Churchill was a big animal lover. We have lots of pictures of her with her dogs, but today for #ArchiveAnimals we can't resist a picture of her and Vic Oliver taking Lion cubs for a walk
Last year, ARU students searched our archives for #HiddenHistories - and found the voices of WWI soldiers, 1930s women politicians, codebreakers, and more.
