The CIJ_ICJ order for Israel to halt military action in Rafah needs to be implemented immediately. Crossings urgently need to be reopened so that aid can be delivered to starving people in Gaza.

Christian Aid Ireland welcomes Ireland’s recognition of Palestine, however, recognition alone is not a panacea & risks being symbolic unless it's accompanied by firmer action. Israel will not change its behaviour unless there are real economic & political costs for its actions.

This is not something to celebrate. 569 metric tons equates to around 28 aid trucks - barely 5% of the daily amount that Gaza needs every day. We need the land crossing back open. (Also Palestinian homes were demolished to make way for the pier - which cost $320 million.)

In Southern Africa the El Nino driven drought has scorched harvests & left 16.4 million people facing a food crisis. Many livestock are now dying due to a loss of pasture. In southern Zimbabwe our partner is training farmers to produce animal feed to keep valuable livestock alive

Forced to flee again, these are people who have already lost everything. But nowhere in Gaza is safe. Al-Mawasi lacks enough food & clean water. Those returning to Khan Yunis are at risk from unexploded ordinance. The world is failing to prevent the assault on Rafah

This is totally inhumane and will contribute hugely to the death toll. Imagine being a mother in Gaza, desperately trying to keep your children alive.

Despite famine taking hold, life-saving aid, food & fuel has been prevented from entering Gaza since the start of the Rafah offensive & the closure of the main crossings. Gaza was relying on 500 trucks of goods a day before the conflict!
