One thing we rarely talk about in education is guilt, despite its prevalence in the sector. The guilt of under-preparing teaching when stretched by multiple deadlines. The guilt of not writing. The guilt of not spending enough time with family because work. The guilt of thinking

With the algorithm these days, only 3 people will see this but, ‘hey, 3 people! My new book on ending breastfeeding is out today!’ Thank you!

I believe that every individual has the right to access safe maternity services. Transparent Change sharing the powerful message at Dept Health Sciences - Don’t let fear of ‘getting it wrong’ be the barrier to providing humanised and inclusive midwifery care.

There was a lot of emotion and happiness, especially as the midwives with me knew how special this meeting was. To those feeling weary and overwhelmed or in doubt of what our profession means - I hope this message inspires you a little. Our work resonates through generations ❤️

You don’t want sterile water/entonox/morphine/epidural? Absolutely fine. Somebody else might, though. So much vitriol on here towards midwives just for being part of a system where these choices are offered. We don’t make the rules (or the NICE guidelines).

I’m neither pro nor con sterile water injections for back pain in labour, but it’s worth noting that of the literally 100’s of angry tweets about the new NICE guidance, this is the only response I’ve seen from someone who‘s actually tried it.

Facilitate choice.

Your friendly reminder that just because NICE has approved sterile water injections for back pain in labour…

…doesn’t mean it’s time for another round of midwife-bashing. We do our best. We work with the guidance we’re given. We’re led by women’s choices. We try.

It’s an interesting one - I wonder if a more worthwhile piece of research should be to explore practice supervisors reluctance to provide feedback to students for them to use as part of their portfolio of evidence for consideration by practice assessors.
