It has been an absolute pleasure to host Dr Jing Guo and Dr Fan Zhang from Nanjing Agricultural University 🇨🇳 in my group Geography at Leeds for the past 12 months as CSC Scholars. We have been working on #contaminants and #remediation. Looking forward to continued collaborations🌱
Today's the day! Dr Laura Wolz, Dr. Laura Carter & I have the 1st meeting of our FLF Development Network funded project to explore how research organisations are supporting those w/ caring responsibilities - to gather data highlighting challenges & to provide some recommendations for the sector
Our first project meeting to discuss balancing careers/caring responsibilities as academics was hosted by Dr Laura Wolz at the Jodrell Bank Observatory … it turns out if you work in a radio-free facility with limited WiFi then you are really productive! Laura Pallett
Have you read nature article “Researcher parents are paying a high price for conference travel - here’s how to fix it” (nature.com/articles/d4158…) Now meet the 3 scientists all called Laura behind it (L👉R) AstroLaura Dr Laura Wolz ImmunoLaura Laura Pallett EnviroLaura Dr. Laura Carter
After a successful research trip with CSIRO, Dr. Laura Carter sparked conversations about the challenges of parenting while travelling for work. With FLF Development Network, Laura and her colleagues are investigating solutions to this important global issue. 🔗 environment.leeds.ac.uk/news/article/5…
As part of #carersinstemm we are compiling a list of available funding & #travelgrants to support dependant travel and ad-hoc caring responsibilities ... UK based researchers we need your help! Please RT and share links/info about funding opportunities 🚨 Laura Pallett Dr Laura Wolz
🌎 #carersinstemm is going international 🌎 come and join us for the ‘Women Leadership Webinar Series’ with Marine Technology Society to discuss caregiving and travel as academics
If anyone has any experience in publishing a methods paper in an #environment-facing journal please do get in touch with my post doc John Nightingale your experience / recommendations would be welcome 🙏
Today has reminded me of the value of in person meetings-really productive & lots of great discussion but I can’t help but be slightly jealous of John Nightingale & visiting PhD student Narmin who were out in the field at the University of Leeds farm when they sent me this picture☀️
As part of #carersinstemm we took part in a panel discussion hosted by Marine Technology Society about travel as carers in #academia. Participants were asked if they feel supported as #caregivers. The results👇show just how important it is that we keep raising awareness and work towards change

We finally managed a night out to celebrate John’s many #PhD successes as a student at Fera/Geography at Leeds. I’m pretty sure we were the first people in the restaurant to discuss #manure & antibiotics at such length over some delicious food 😂 John Nightingale #proudsupervisor
Lovely afternoon with Narmin, beth adams and John Nightingale for our Geography at Leeds research group summer activity 🥾☀️ walking the York City walls, with an ice cream stop of course 🍦
An absolute pleasure to host Bryan Brooks at Geography at Leeds yesterday. Bryan delivered a thought provoking water@leeds seminar on One Health in urbanising aquatic systems followed by a networking lunch complete with afternoon tea 🍰🥪 🫖
Excited to be here at the Plants People Planet 🌱👥🌐 meeting ‘Innovation in plant and soil sciences to tackle critical global challenges’ Plants, Photosynthesis and Soil. Prof. Katie Field kicks us off and sets the scene for an interesting meeting ahead 🌱
Great to see Geography at Leeds research into soil health and #regenerative agriculture highlighted by Pippa Chapman at the Plants People Planet 🌱👥🌐 meeting today ‘Agriculture needs to adapt to climate change ..’ 🌱🚜
Delighted to share that I have been selected as one of the winners of the 2023 Environmental Science & Technology Journals Letters Reviewer Awards 😀 - a fabulous journal publishing timely research and emerging environmental issues
