The Beatles exist apart from myself. I am not really Beatle George. Beatle George is like a suit or shirt that I once wore on occasion, and until the end of my life, people may see that shirt and mistake it for me.

The desire to express myself on canvas can be triggered by any number of things – for me an experience, an amazing concert, an album, or a fleeting thought from a song lyric. Although these are often blurry, the images they evoke become sharper & clearer in time.

The mind of the creative artist is a strange and wonderful thing. An artist’s emotions are funneled directly into their paintbrush and the strokes they make on each canvas.

When I was in school I read a quote by Herman Hess: “It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other & honor him for what he is.” That week I started honoring the people who inspire me by sketching them. I still do it.
