It was a privilege to speak to support this motion last night and to draw on my previous experience as an ESOL teacher Calderdale College. I mentioned the Festival of Cultures Laura Lavender Mel Heaton and the importance of listening to the stories of refugees and asylum seekers.
People fleeing violence and persecution should be treated with compassion, supported and included. Last night Calderdale Council Council we passed a motion committing to becoming a local authority of sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers. We proudly offer a warm welcome here.
