We mark the 40th anniversary of one the most important moments in Ireland's labour history!

Blood Fruit tells the powerful story of the Dunnes Stores strike of 1984

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with one of the original strikers, Mary Manning.

And again in 1971 by The Plough Book Service. Copies of which are still available in our shop. That, and 1972 copies of 'Erins Hope' & 'The New Evangel', available in a bundle for 8 quid 🙌

1917 reprint of Socialism Made Easy by the Socialist Labour Party (Glasgow). It would not be reprinted again in full in Britain or Ireland (afaik) until 1968 when Raynor Lysaght self-published a facsimile of the original US edition. Got it for a song online. So happy 🙂

When we canvassed Prospect Hill it was nearly hard to find houses that were actually lived in with the amount of short-term lets in some parts.

Look at this concentration of AirBnBs.

Vast majority of these are in breach of planning regulations.

This is great. Fiadh Tubridy's article on Irish housing movements is online and open access - the article also highlights 'the value of radical history research as a form of organising and strategy for political recomposition.' onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/an…

China is providing the conditions to save life on our planet from climate change, but Western investors are angry because 'shareholders suffered'.

China's industrial policy and low profit margins have made solar panels extremely affordable for everyone... but at what cost?!

Wonderful launch & celebration of Feminist Climate Justice Report by our colleagues Dr Fiona Dukelow, Dr Catherine Forde & Edith Busteed. Hugely valuable work for informing thinking on how to progress from current almost absent baseline.

Adding context:
Minister Ryan's Department fought hard against the Swiss women in the Court of Human Rights.
The Govt. dispatched five lawyers to argue against them. No other government did that. It is not clear to me why Ireland was so strongly opposed.

Just when I thought I was finished I find five previously unknown letters by Connolly - three of which date from 1891-98 the timeline for the collection. Finally got photos of them today and just have to transcribe them now for the book.

All over the Global South (& across Indigenous lands of the North) communities struggle against capital to maintain not just 'land' as an abstraction, but the socioecological means of reproducing life. If folks can't respect & learn from them, we are truly fkd on this planet.

Having to number the letters in Nevin's Between Comrades as he never says how many are in it and how many are from Connolly. By my reckoning only 42% of the letters are actually by Connolly - the majority are by others - and the Connolly ones are full of errors. Crazy stuff...

2/2 Approx 2.5km in length the walk will take roughly 2 hours, starting at Beresford Place & ending at Dame St. It'll go ahead rain or shine, dress appropriately!

Tickets are €5 and capacity is limited to 50 people so as to make it manageable
