Thank you again to UC San Diego Bioengineering for inviting me to visit and give the 2024 Dr. Richard Skalak Memorial Lecture… I enjoyed meeting with many old and new friends, and even spotted a charming little cottage cantilevered out from a rooftop which made an interesting little side quest!
In 2019 my fellow dept chairs elected me to lead the BME Council of Chairs, which is affiliated with Biomedical Engineering Society but also meets at the AIMBE Annual Event. My predecessors Robert Kirsch, Ph.D. , Martine LaBerge, and Eric Perrault taught me a lot and made me feel so welcome!
A little while later I became a dept chair myself, and AIMBE quickly became a can’t-miss event for me, along with Biomedical Engineering Society . Where else can you meet up with great friends like Prof. Lola Eniola-Adefeso , and cheer on your Fellow nominees and colleagues?

ChatGPT goes to school: Michael King and 20 of his PhD students put generative AI to the test, giving the LLM various homework assignments from a class on Quantitative Methods in BME. The group co-authored a newly published paper discussing the results: vu.edu/mikekingpaper
Happy to share a new paper on using ChatGPT and other LLMs into a grad level computational/statistical methods course in Vanderbilt BME! I coauthored this with 6 students in the course, and it is available to all readers #OpenAccess !
