Magdeburg was flattened by the Allies in January 1945. All churches were damaged or completely destroyed. Some were rebuilt, including the Walloner Kirche, where the membership of the Cross of Nails Community is taken very seriously.

The link between Saxony and England goes back a long way. In 930 Edith, granddaughter of Alfred the Great, married Otto, the first Holy Roman Emperor, in Magdeburg Cathedral. Here is her tomb, in which her remains were reinterred in 2012.

That’s a powerful and important message from David Cameron 🇬🇧, but it is of course the message from 🇪🇺 as well. And if 🇪🇺🇬🇧 work together we also strengthen that message.

I was so sorry not to be able to be present, Anderson Jeremiah. Prayers have been said: may God bless you richly in this new role. You are a very worthy successor to Rob Wickham: lucky Edmonton!
