'Parliamentary sovereignty does not empower it to alter reality...Rwanda has been found not to be a safe country for asylum seekers. Like asking us to believe that 2+2=5 ...it requires all decision makers to ignore documented fact and give legal priority to a fiction.'

According to Midgley, philosophy is the ‘way in which we service the deep infrastructure of our lives – the patterns that are taken for granted because they have not really been questioned’

Thanks for writing this! Trying to get to grips with the case law to set an essay question on this showed me how much this article is needed!

This is tremendous! It’s a great read and a great introduction to constitutionalism, constituent power, Marxism and tyranny – I learned things!

I hope that one day the constitution won't be broken and I'll have to think about something else. But until then it keeps me out of mischief. Rubbish.

Minutes from the last Research Degrees Committee meeting are online at last (thanks to the secretary). durhamuniversity.sharepoint.com/teams/Curricul…
This is when it was allegedly decided to reintroduce continuation fees in the middle of COL + housing crises. The minutes are quite something. 🧵... 1/

Local Hero beached up at cinemas 40 years ago, telling the story of a Texan oil tycoon buying up a Scottish village.

In this 1983 behind-the-scenes archive clip, actors Burt Lancaster and Fulton Mackay, along with filmmaker Bill Forsyth, reflect on its magical charm.

My very dear friend and a scholar I admire, Olivia Woolley, published this excellent, first of its kind, textbook on renewable energy law with Hart Publishing The book is extremely thorough (wouldn’t expect less from Olivia) and offers classroom case studies for each topic!

This seminar design Joy Twemlow (she/her) developed changed how students approached the whole module, and probably their degree.

It gets them to recognise and share their own critical perspective on the law. In a non-scary manner.

And it is so much fun.

If law was a person, what kind of person would they be? 👩🏻‍⚖️

My new article in The Law Teacher outlines how this question was used as a pedagogical tool for fostering diverse perspectives and critical thinking in the legal classroom
