35 years ago, Chris McCandless drew his life savings and gave it to fight apartheid in South Africa. He then began a journey across North America, ultimately losing his life in the wilds of Alaska. I have a song out on Friday, “Road to Gold,” inspired by this remarkable human.

New song out today, called “Road to Gold.” I reread “Into the Wild” last year. Chris M’s story is a poignant reminder that money can’t buy happiness and that it’s always better to share the journey than go at it alone. Live on all streaming platforms. ffm.bio/lukebeling

“Don’t settle for a life of quiet desperation” (Chris McCandless via Henry David Thoreau). The lyric video for my new song, Road to Gold, is up on my YouTube page. 🍻🍻 youtu.be/RfW4FsRvA3I?si…

Writing daily for more than five years now, I believe there isn’t an ideal environment or creative state to procure before beginning one’s work. The only thing that is required is small, consistent steps, even if it’s in the hotel lobby on your fifteen-minute lunch break.

Provide your reader with memorable images they can use to infer meaning. "You wore that cut-off tee like a dress, girl, hand in the breeze flipping off the world." is much stronger than "You were a white-trash girl who didn't care about anything."  #writing

Can your audience taste, touch, see, smell, or hear it? I always ask myself this question when writing a song or a story. “Dad was angry with me.” 👎 “Dad took off his zebra skin belt and cracked it against my cold, white face.” 👌

One of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut writing tips. “Every sentence must do one of two things: reveal character or advance the action."

The title track for my new EP, ‘The Good Side of Somewhere,’ drops this Friday, 9/12. I co-wrote this one with my pal, t.f. jennings, who brought some feel good vibe and one of my favorite turns of phrase to date. Excited for you all to hear it. MDDN #altfolk

Writing has always helped me make sense of the world. I wrote “The Good Side of Somewhere” while embracing the idea that we are at our best when we cling to hope. May that be true for all of us today. live on all streaming platforms. ffm.bio/lukebeling
