14 May 1944 | Jane Haining, a Church of Scotland missionary in Budapest became a prisoner of #Auschwitz . She received the number 79467. She perished in the camp on 17 July 1944.

Haining was recognized by Yad Vashem as a Righteous Among the Nations.

During wartime, women used knitting as part of the resistance and for spying, encoding messages with combinations of knits and purls. This included Phyllis Latour Doyle, who parachuted into occupied Normandy in 1944 #womensart

14 May 1925 | A Polish boy, Karol Kobyłecki, was born in Krakow.

In #Auschwitz from 3 April 1942.
No. 28797 (political prisoner)
In 1944 he was transferred to KL Mauthausen and liberated there.

She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt Ghetto on 1 February 1943. She did not survive.

14 May 1940 | A French Jewish boy, Henri Latowicz, was born in Paris.

He arrived at #Auschwitz on 11 February 1943 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy. He was among 832 of them murdered in gas chambers after the selection.
