Why writers are a little WEIRD:
-We know random facts about getting away with murder
-We wear pajamas all-day
-We don't sleep
-We talk to other personalities we call 'characters'
-We say we're always writing, yet our word count never changes
-Coffee is life
-We don't go outside

How to become an INSTANTLY better writer:

-Realize that it's okay to not be perfect
-Take mental health breaks
-Be okay with making mistakes
-Love what you write
-Don't be afraid to walk away from a WIP to write something else
-Understand that bad writing days are normal

Being a writer means setting imaginary unrealistic deadlines for yourself, and then getting crippling anxiety when you don't hit them.

Being a writer means coming to the terrible realization that thinking about your story doesn’t actually count as writing

Can we normalize that all first drafts are bad? Stop judging your writing ability by the first thing you write. Editing and rewriting are crucial to the writing process. Just keep writing!

When you start writing again after taking a month off:

My local bank keeps sending me emails with this tagline and I can’t decide whether it’s because they *have* seen Mad Men or *haven’t* seen Mad Men and I can’t pick which is worse

Yes! but also the Burger King commemorative cups! When we got together, I saw my husband’s parents had a bunch of them just going unused and was SO excited to see them that they gifted them to me! My husband calls them his “dowry” and honestly yes, excellent trade deal

Reposting because the deadline’s here and there are still several marching band students who haven’t been able to come up with the funds to go. Loads of these kids haven’t even left the state before and this is a once-in-a-school-career chance for them, & any help is appreciated!

Staying up late because you can’t put a book down is a serious commitment in adulthood. This is not the body that was sneaking a flashlight in and staying up until 4 reading only to bounce out of bed the next day like it was nothing. Those grownup missed zzzs are load-bearing

90% of the writing process is spending hours going through baby name websites trying to invent original names for your characters.
