1/x Once I was 'walking' through Google Street View looking for bird sites. It hit me: what if we could automatically identify suitable habitats for a species from ground-based imagery? Idea stuck - Lars L. Iversen convinced me we should try on🦎... it worked! bit.ly/GBIhabitats

New in Ecology Letters w/ Jennifer Sunday and Mary O'Connor!

We find that temperature-dependence of competitive ability (R*) is cold-shifted relative to population growth rates

✨competitive success is highest at temperatures that are sub-optimal for growth✨

Great to see my 日本生態学会 award article out in Ecological Research with Takehiro Sasaki: there's been interest in response diversity for years, but still not much empirical (or theoretical!) work formalising the links between response diversity and stability. We ask 'why not?'

Very pleased to share our new opinion paper in Trends in Ecology & Evolution! with K. Fukaya, Wilfried Thuiller, AkiraSMori
We explain how advances in biodiversity modeling (SDMs, MEMs) can help us predict and map ecosystem services: crop pollination, pest control, etc.

This company (Iridian Genomes) is extremely mysterious but has dumped tens of thousands of genomes onto Genbank. Their address is a random house in the DC suburbs. Is this just a person with a lot of money and an Illumina machine in their house? iridiangenomes.com

I am really excited to report one of the most exciting findings that we found!! 🌿Summary: we identified a fungus that is ecologically dominant and lives on the stalk gland of sundew! And the fungus facilitates its prey digestion!!!
