The P-word is a highly offensive racial slur. It isn’t banter. It hasn’t been ‘reclaimed’. It is used to bully and discriminate. It is as hurtful and pejorative as the N-word.

@BBCSangita My child is called the p word and even the n word by the ignorant at school. They now have mental health problems, it does affect people, it's not just words and it's certainly not 'banter'

Disgrace Kelly @BBCSangita Horrible. How did the school handle it? We had a racist comments issue recently quickly dealt with by the school.

Ian Brooker @BBCSangita The school have handled things fairly well. There was a supply teacher who turned around and laughed at a child shouting 'Indian curry' in an accent. Imagine how my child felt as the only person of colour in that room (white/Indian)

Disgrace Kelly Ian Brooker Oh my god, Claire. I’m so sorry. Something very similar happened to my brother in law back in the 80s. I can’t believe it’s happened now.

@BBCSangita Ian Brooker She had a paper boat full of spit thrown at her during the pandemic. She has no 'Indian' side of her family to talk to so it's just me trying to do my best for her but currently failing. School now have her in an anxiety group. I wish I could tell her it will end but I can't lie

Disgrace Kelly @BBCSangita Ian Brooker I’m appalled to hear this. I experienced this growing up in the 80s & 90s. Even grown men shouting the P word when I walked past the pub 1 afternoon as a young teen. Sending much love to you both. I have 3 kids of mixed heritage & it pains me to see the world is still like this.
