American Airlines pilots’ union reports a significant spike in safety and maintenance-related problems at the carrier — and it is telling pilots to be vigilant.

“The walls are closing in on the safety margin… we’ve got a lot [of] old airplanes flying a lot longer in the system,” says Allied Pilots’s Dennis Tajer. “What pressures are going on right now are not something we like to see.”

“We fully intend to do everything we can to assure that americanair maintains strong margins of safety,” APA spokesman CA Dennis Tajer told Bloomberg.
