Thoroughly enjoyed leading a nature walk around Broughton Sanctuary Broughton Hall Estate for the local community, funded by The White Rose Forest. Highlights included Green Hairstreak, Curlews bubbling away merrily and plenty of toad spawn in the wild swimming pond. Next one Thurs 23rd May

Tony Juniper Alastair Driver Rewilding Britain Natural England Broughton Hall Estate NE Chief Scientist DefraNature Glad you were impressed with the visit. A couple of nice records from a week ago: Bilberry Bumblebee and Hairy Violet.
Many congratulations to Tony Juniper Natural England who was the first to spot a passing Peregrine Broughton Hall Estate today while I was blathering on. Happily the 100th bird species recorded on the site since they started recording every plant and animal species two years ago.
Excellent meeting at Broughton Sanctuary Broughton Hall Estate today with Tony Juniper and team. Showcasing how estate scale multiple land use - in this case, rewilding, regenerative agriculture, intensive farming, parkland, etc can be a successful microcosm of future land use.
Excellent fact-finding visit to CSGOWild Ingleborough and the Three Dales Landscape Recovery Project. Many thanks Yorkshire Wildlife Trust et al for hosting. A few funding and administrative issues need sorting out to help these LR projects become reality. Will be discussing with Defra UK
The frustration with creating a sanctuary for wildlife - as at Broughton Sanctuary Broughton Hall Estate nr Skipton - is that you risk sucking in invasive non-native species from nearby estates. Pheasant numbers going through the roof now - not good news for their Lizards at least.
Very pleasant morning showing Forest Research et al the #rewilding at Broughton Sanctuary Broughton Hall Estate. Natural regeneration field of particular interest, not least this row of Hawthorns appearing below bird-perch branch tips of mature Ash. A well-hidden leveret was a bonus.
More specialist volunteers coming on board Broughton Hall Estate. This time it’s licensed bat workers from JBA Consulting keen to monitor roosts as part of continuing professional development. #Rewilding projects across the country are showing a tenfold increase in volunteer engagement
Posted this pic last September of what Richard Fox confirmed was likely to be a Green-veined White butterfly chrysalis on our back door post - and so it proved to be, when this beautiful specimen emerged yesterday. Butterfly Conservation 🦋
At Broughton Sanctuary for a fun-filled week of Rewilding Britain and Broughton Hall Estate meetings. First Swallow of the year and my earliest ever Cuckoo got the week off to a flier. Hosting Forest Research Tony Juniper Natural England and local community group et al later in the week.
This #rewilding gathering is full of inspiring talks and opportunities to meet like-minded practitioners, enthusiasts and leading voices in nature recovery – all in one place.
