Another benefit of mindset training for kids:

Increased self-confidence

They learn how to talk to themselves, reflect on their past success, see themselves succeeding in the future, and handle higher, harder challenges.

Most performances (seasons in sports, quarters in business) are a series of sprints, disguised as a marathon.

The key to getting through is to rest when you have a moment.

It's not a sign things are going wrong.

It's an investment in the next sprint so you can be your best.

When you hear the best athletes in history talk, they always talk about 2 things:

1. Winning
2. Becoming the best version of themselves

There's nothing more powerful than self-mastery as the mechanism for reaching your goals.

The first thing to get right when training your mind:

A foundation of well-being.

Any other attempt at optimization will fall short if you don't take care of the basics.

Sleep
Nutrition
Exercise
Play
Self-awareness
Stress Management

The better you feel, the better you can be.

'It is always in my mind still that I can crush anybody. That’s not an issue. But I think that is the same for most athletes. If you don’t believe you can win tournaments anymore, then you can’t do it.'

If you want to build mental toughness, you need 3 ingredients:

1. Progressively harder challenges
2. Conscious reflection on the experience
3. A chance to recover before you repeat

Challenge with no reflection - no learning.

With no recovery - no rebuilding stronger.

The better you prepare, the better you perform.

Good preparation is:

Physical practice - with repetition, variation, and representativeness.

Mental practice - vivid imagery, planning, and implementation intentions.

If you want to execute better when it matters, start here.

Many of the same mental skills that help young athletes help coaches.

And, coaches who develop these skills produce better athletes.
