I can’t see anything here about protecting refugees and providing them with sanctuary in line with our international responsibilities under the Refugee Convention, which is very disappointing. There is not even a commitment to contract adequate housing?

A very wtf response from Rwanda's top official in charge of the UK deal, when asked if refugees sent there would be able to criticise the government and hold protests if they wanted to:

Each person crossing today & tomorrow will know of the people killed overnight. And still they cross. Because they have no other routes.

This is why it’s a nonsense to claim people can be deterred by Rwanda. There’s nothing as terrifying as what they’re already forced to endure.
