The Afar, also known as the Danakil, Adali and Odali, are an ethnic group inhabiting the Horn of Africa. They primarily live in the Afar Region of Ethiopia and in northern Djibouti, as well as the entire southern coast of Eritrea.

Body scarification is practiced among many ethnic groups in South Sudan, and they give identity to the tribe and beauty to its women. Men of the Dinka tribe scar their faces with three parallel lines across the forehead in a rugged display of courage to the tribe.

For the rural Dinka people of South Sudan, cattle are at the center of their culture.
They use them as currency, treat them as objects of beauty, and fight tribal battles over them. White is the Dinkas' favorite color for cattle.
