Nice history + IO work: nber.org/papers/w32384. 19th c. mills switched slowly to steam. Big prob; switching costs + high fixed costs of steam. Firms start small->use water power at first->locked-in as they get big. Note cloud+AI the opposite: low FC + churn = quicker adoption?

Great article by Rasheed J. Griffith on Jamaica vs Barbados. Tldr: Jamaica was absentee slave state w many rebellions, high death rate. Barbados had parliament from 1700s, highly literate black pop. early. Not just two UK ex slave colonies. Carib not homogenous. cpsi.media/p/jamaica-is-n…

In principle, I agree as a theoretical possibility with Alex and Tyler here. But empirically, it does not appear to be the case that noncompetes materially raise wages (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.39…) and there is good evidence that they harm innovation and firm dynamism substantially.

Pretty astounding & shows how easy it is to live in info bubble. For 18-29 year old Americans, of 16 topics, student debt, Israel/Gaza, climate change are literally bottom 3 for men, bottom 5 overall. People like me have power - v important to know what populace actually values.
