I can honestly say I felt good teaching today. Spring break was perfect. And I taught some of my favorite things today. My sophomores did some MCAP practice using an excerpt from The Bluest Eye. 🩵💙

After reading The Things They Carried, my students and I read the Vietnam letters between Lyndon B. Johnson and Ho Chi Minh. This year we had a discussion about which letter sounded like it was written by “aye-eye” and which sounded like it was written by a human. It got good!

I just need one (a single) weekday (not weekend) in between when we get out of school and the actual holiday. Getting out on Friday. Christmas is Monday. Level 5 stressed. 🤯🤯

English teachers should have an additional prep period for reading and providing feedback on student writing. It takes over 8 hours for a writing teacher with 100 students to read and respond to a typical set of essays - and that's assuming only 5 minutes per essay. #bfc530

I just got into audiobooks last year. Listening to Viola Davis read her memoir was delightful. I didn’t think anything could compare. But listening to my favorite author read my favorite books. Whew. Intimate and soothing. An actual balm.🩷🩷

Downloading Libby (free library app) and listening to Toni Morrison read The Bluest Eye is the awakening I needed. This feels like a gift. Feels spiritual. I love this. 🥺💙

2nd time this week running into a former student from evening school (pre-pandemic) out and about working in the community. . .one of my favorite things!

Finally reading Parable of the Talents (December Book Club selection) and my, oh my. . .Octavia Butler knew all the things!
