On this day, 16th May 1944, Roma and Sinti people in Auschwitz-Birkenau resisted Nazi soldiers, delaying executions in the ‘Gypsy Camp’ for several months.

We honour the bravery and strength of all the Roma and Sinti people.

Today is Romani Resistance Day, when hundreds of Roma and Sinti fought against the SS guards in Auschwitz-Birkenau to escape their pending deaths. It is a fight that, to this day, us Roma continue to endure. For us, it continues.
