During yesterday’s mission we collected significant weather data for the next system that is to bring winter weather and high wind impacts across the West Coast. The data is used for model ingest and forecaster analysis to improve their warning times and locations.

53d WRS aircrews dropped several buoys over the Pacific this weekend. The data collected via the buoys, which are placed in data-sparse regions, improve forecasts and provide researchers and forecasters a better understanding of atmospheric rivers. #WeatherReady

These were the scenes from yesterday's #AtmosphericRiver reconnaissance mission 600-800 miles off the California coast.
We've currently got another one going as the system moves to impact Central and Southern California.
Headed to California with crew changes for #AtmosphericRiver missions, which occur between November and March.
The data collected helps improve forecast models & reservoir operations that supply water during droughts and the control of water levels for possible flood events.
The 53rd WRS is wrapping up another #atmosphericriver mission this evening on the West Coast. Tomorrow they are scheduled to get their kicks on Track 66, a flight path measuring atmospheric moisture over the Gulf which is expected to impact the East Coast in the coming days.
Even snow doesn’t stop us from being #WeatherReady ! Flew an atmospheric river mission and completed two buoy deployments, dropping 30 bouys!
1pm EST Nov 16: Invest #98L in the W Caribbean has a high chance (🔴70%) of TC formation in the next 48h, & TS watches/warnings could be necessary for parts of the Greater Antilles this afternoon. A Hurricane Hunters mission is en route to investigate the system.
