Col John McCrann has concluded his time with Ireland at UN. Col McCrann's lengthy career in Óglaigh na hÉireann includes having served as OC 2 BAR from 2013 to 2015. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.

We in 2 BAR extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of our fallen comrade following the tragic events in Lebanon last night. We hope for the swift recovery of the injured soldiers and our thoughts are with his comrades still serving the cause of peace.

Happy St Barbara's Day to our gunner colleagues around the world.

In addition to #artillery Barbara is the patron Saint of Defence Forces Engineer Corps and Ordnance within the DF family.

2 BAR concluded our support to the #artillery corps OCC assessment this week, helping to ensure ongoing development of interoperability with our NATO international partners. Well done to our counterparts in 1 Brigade 🇮🇪 Defence Forces Arty Regt for their commitment throughout the last year.

Lt Col John Prendergast, OC 2 BAR, and BS Lloyd Murphy presented cheques for funds raised during our charity gun pull through the Midlands to the Irish Red Cross and to GOC 2 Bde on behalf of the Óglaigh na hÉireann Benevolent Fund. Delighted to be able to support two worthy causes.

Well done to our neighbours in Custume Barracks, 6 Infantry Battalion for their recent exercise. Maintenance of conventional capabilities is a vital element of our role in Óglaigh na hÉireann and reminds us all of our #lifelessordinary .

The 2022 DF An Cosantóir 10km Road Race & 5km Walk takes place on Wed 12th Oct 2022 in the Phoenix Park.

Event is open to serving and retired members of the DF. All participants can register their entry for the race at military.ie/run.

Taking our adventure training a step further, members of 2 BAR occupied the RDF barracks in Killorglin this week to climb Carrauntoohil for some #teambuilding . Many thanks to 12 Inf Bn for supporting our training activity and well done to our unit members for their achievement.

After confidence and adventure training, it's back to the business at hand, as soldiers of 2 BAR conducted a Basic Foxtrack course. This ground surveillance radar can detect, identify and track personnel and vehicles to aid situational awareness and enhance force protection.

2 BAR conducted a confidence and adventure training week last week, supported by DF Kayak Club and DF Association of Mountaineering. Many thanks to our instructors both internal and external for providing hugely rewarding training and development for our soldiers.
