Morning Simon Harris TD, this is your daily reminder that the talented PhDs in Ireland you say you value so much are still living on less than minimum wage and still have no workers rights like parental leave, sick leave, guaranteed time off… But enjoy your Sunday!
Listen Simon Harris TD, listen! If you want researchers to come to Ireland from abroad, like myself, you need to actually show appreciation for them and pay them a decent wage, give them access to state-of-the-art facilities and grant them their basic employment rights. NOW!!!
Where is the increase in PhD stipends? Where are the basic rights for postgraduate researchers, sick leave/paternity leave etc.? It’s outrageous that this is not even mentioned here Simon Harris TD — it should have been sorted long ago 🫠
Government must honour its pledge to bridge the annual €307M shortfall in core funding for higher education.
Our sector is grossly underfunded and it is having a huge impact on students & staff.
Another budget cannot come and go without meaningful investment.
#FundTheFuture
You know the higher education funding in your country is bad when the Provost emails all students and staff for help to pressure the government two weeks before the budget. Ireland, it’s time to fund education and research properly!! Simon Harris TD IrishResearchCouncil
